Star Fish House

At three stories tall on a hillside site, the original 1978 house was crumbling, but had commanding views of the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco.  A repair project with a minor facelift soon became a major renovation.  A completely new street façade drove changes to the floor plan that enabled to the owners to reconsider their way of living.  The interior changed dramatically with a small addition that created a generous south-and-east-facing kitchen and deck that work as a pair of rooms and extend the reach of natural light deeper inside The former kitchen location—a balcony above a two-story living room—is now a study with its view to the Bay, the Bridge and Headlands.  The master suite and adjacent bedroom were expanded by the façade changes.  Throughout the house we used natural materials and minimalist detailing to provide a sense of peace within.
